Safety Information
Before heading out to sea, every sailor must complete a Sailing Club Membership form (done only once) & ensure they have all the correct safety gear & equipment with them.
Inexperienced sailors are not permitted to head out to sea on their own.
All sailors must follow the reasonable instructions of any AUSC or HSC official especially concerning safety issues.
Sailor must do a final inspection on the boat before launching i.e. check all lines, blocks, sails, battens, bungs etc.
In the event of an injury, seek immediate first aid from the First Aid officer in the club room. Marine First Aid kits are available from the club office.

Weather Conditions:
The Clubs Sailing Days will only be carried out during favorable weather conditions.
If the weather forecast is unfavorable i.e. Wind over 20 Knots and/or waves over 1.5 meters, the Sailing Day will be postponed or canceled. Please check the website for updates before coming, or contact a club official via sms on the morning of the scheduled Sailing Day to check on weather conditions.
As the weather can change quickly on the day itself, sometimes a late cancellation is inevitable.

Safety Equipment:
Each sailor MUST wear a Pfd (Personal Flotation Device) before heading out to sea.
Other safety equipment provided by the club includes:
- Ronstan sailing skiffs (wetsuits)
- Ronstan gloves
- Ronstan Spray jackets (windproof)
- Whistle in left had side of every jacket
- Helmets (if required during training)
- 2-way hand held radios to communicate with other boats (in waterproof pouches)

If the boat capsizes:
During sail training, racing or even a casual sail the boat can capsize. In the event of a capsize:
- Stay calm and remain with the boat at ALL times
- Secure any loose items e.g. tillers, centreboard's.
- Try and right the boat if you know how to.
- If unable to right the boat, signal for help to the rescue boat or the watch tower
at the club. Use the 2-way radio and the whistle in your spray jacket.
- Wait for a rescue.
- After rescue, continue sailing or return to shore.
- De-brief, assess and report any damage.

Use of rescue boats:
No person shall operate a power/rescue boat without prior instruction.
The person in charge should hold the relevant qualifications.
The boat log shall be completed each time the boat is used and any malfunction or breakage to be reported.

Use of tractors:
Only persons accredited by AUSC & HSC may operate tractors.
This person shall also hold a current driving license.
No passengers are permitted.
